Plastic bag album & Tutorial

plastic store bag album 023

plastic store bag album 024

plastic store bag album 025

plastic store bag album 027

This is just a few pictures of the finished album. Now for the How To……

You will need…

1. plastic store bags

2. an iron

3. tow sheets of computer paper

4. craft paint

5. decoupage and strong craft glue

6. paper

7. items to attach your album together ( ribbon, rings, etc.)

optional items: stamps, ribbon, embellishments

Step 1:

Lay your bag out like this…

plastic store bag album 001

Now your are going to cut the handle and bottom off.

plastic store bag album 002

Next you are going to open up the remaining part of the bag like this…

plastic store bag album 003

Last you are going to cut off any writing or design on the bag.

plastic store bag album 004

Now you will have this left….

plastic store bag album 005

OK, now onto folding…….

plastic store bag album 006

fold in half the long way to make a square

Then…

plastic store bag album 007

fold again from the bottom of your square to the top

Now……

 plastic store bag album 008

fold again in half..

Now do this to as many bags that you need for your album.

Step 2:

Ironing your plastic bags….

* Do this in a well ventilated area

Heat your iron to a medium heat. Since all irons are different I don’t really have a setting to go by. You may want to make extras so you can test your iron.

If the iron is too hot you will have a shrinkie dink thing going on and if it is too cool there will be no fusion at all.

Now get your two pieces of computer paper ready. Lay one down on your ironing board then put your plastic bag on the paper and then put the other sheet of paper on top. Just like this….

plastic store bag album 009

plastic store bag album 010

plastic store bag album 011

Now you are going to iron on top of the paper. Move iron slowly over the area. It takes about a minute for each of them to fuse.

plastic store bag album 012

You will want to check it every so often by pealing off the top sheet of paper. Also you may want to flip the whole thing over too and iron the other side. You are going to want to keep ironing until all layers of the bag are fused together. You should not have any loose layers. The plastic will get hard and durable. Like this….

plastic store bag album 013

some wrinkling is normal and a little shrinking.

Now comes the fun part…

Step 3:

you are going to want to paint the whole surface on both sides with craft paint. Do very light coats.

plastic store bag album 014

Once you have painted both sides and they are dry you can stamp on them like this….

plastic store bag album 015

and if you don’t have stamps don’t worry… A lot of items found around your house can be a stamp like bubble wrap

plastic store bag album 016

You can either ink up the bubble wrap with a stamp pad or with craft paint. If you use craft paint you will want to paint on a light coat directly to the bubble wrap.

When all is dry on both sides you are going to want to seal the paint and protect you pictures by using decoupage on both sides. 2 coats will be fine.

Here I decided to decoupage after I added the paper. It really doesn’t matter which way you decide to do it. Either way you will need a strong craft glue to adhere your paper to the plastic. I used the Martha Stewart craft glue.

plastic store bag album 021

Remember to do both sides.

Note: Some curling may happen when you are waiting for the one side to dry after decoupage application. If this happens just gently bend the page back into shape.

Your last thing to do is punch holes for your ribbon or rings to hold the album together.

Don’t forget to decorate your pages!!!

Hope you have fun trying this:) Be Brave, I know you can do this!

Printer update….

Well I have not fixed my printer problem as of yet. I am still having the red blinking light of death ( that is what I am calling it now) I have went over the printers manual and there is nothing about the red blinking light I have. I am really bumming right now:( I have lots of LO’s to do and no pictures:( I tried calling Kodak about my red blinking light of death, but they don’t know what it is either. They did say that when their tech team figures out what it is they will contact me with the info.. In the mean time I am going to try to convince my Hubby to buy a new printer. So wish me luck with the convincing… So I guess now I am going to put together some tutorials on using some recycled items to make things for your LO’s and cards. One will be the many ways to use cereal boxes and making an album out of plastic store bags. I have to keep on a bloggin some how:) So look for the tutorials next week. I am going to work on them this weekend and will post next week…

Have a fun and creative weekend!

2 LO and printer troubles

032

This LO is of my wild boy Dale. So to play up his wildness I used some wild paper. All paper is Basic Grey. This is actually a picture I have already scrapped, but my printer is having some kind of a problem:( so I was desperate to scrap and found this picture. I am so upset with my printer right now! I just bought the darn thing in Oct. So while I figure out the problem I have also been making LO for the pictures I need to scrap. When I get the pics on the LO’s I will post them.

031

This LO was done before my printer decided to dislike me. This is of my daughter Breauna’s 7th Birthday. Everything was cut using the Cricut and Plaintin Schoolbook cart. and stretch your imagination cart. The stickers are some that I have had for a while. This LO can be used several different ways. This is just one way, but i am planning on doing different LO’s with the basic concept.

Well off to fuss with my printer….Wish me luck!

Painted Hutch

001

I finally finished it!!!! Except after looking at the picture I think I may paint the inside. Here again i just used craft paint and then put a coat of sealer on it. The glass door was covered with contact paper, so I had a heck of a time getting the left over adhesive off. I tried everything, goo gone, alcohol, veg. oil, but the only thing that worked was an SOS pad. Well I am off to my next project:)

Family LO and a painted window

006

This is my latest creation in the scrapbooking world.

007

This project took me all day to paint. Sorry about the glare:( My hubby picked me up this window that his friend was going to throw out. So I decided to paint it Americana. My kitchen is done all in Americana decor. I used just regular craft paint and painted the side facing the wall. The stars were painted first. I let them dry and then painted the blue over top the white. I am working on a hutch that my hubby also picked up for me. It was kinda plain so I am spicing it up with some paint. When it is finished i will post it.

So today I was busy with 2 painting projects and one LO. I am on a roll :) I can’t believe I finished 2 out of the 3 projects today. Well I am off to paint more, and think about my next scrapbook page:)

Twilight Birthday cake

009

My daughter Sydney turned 17 on the 26th and wanted a Twilight cake. After a lot of convincing ( or should I say begging and pleading) Walmart Bakery agreed to make it. This cake was awesome, it was 3D and yes that is a real apple! My daughter loved it so much she didn’t want me to cut it and serve it to her guests. Don’t worry we did serve it to her guests, nobody went home without some cake. This was designed from one of the books covers. Don’t ask me which one because I have not read them yet. Anyway, my daughter had a wonderful Birthday. Scrapbook pages will follow soon!

Dirt bike LO

001

This LO is kinda plain, but they all can’t be perfect. I cut the circles out of some paper I had and then with a black marker I outlined it and made kinda bike spokes. The title I cut with the wonderful cricut machine and used watercolors for the shading. I still think the LO needs something though. So if any of you have a suggestion as to what it needs just make a comment and let me know. Well off I go to finish another page, hopefully I will post it tomorrow:)

Evening Of Theater LO

053

This LO is of my DD’s singing performance at her school. I used the cricut mat cover stamped transparency that I made, stickles on the title letters, metallic rubs around the photo’s, rub- on for the journal box, and of course some bling. Gotta have the bling:D. I am slowly but surely getting caught up on my scrapbooking, but now I just took 53 pictures:0. I guess I am then behind again. Oh well I have my life time to scrapbook all the pictures I take. I really don’t think that anybody can get caught up because we keep taking more and more pictures. DARN THE CURSE! Just kidding we all wouldn’t be scrapbookers if we didn’t take lots of pictures.

Well everyone keep taking pictures and scrapbook them when you can.

Take Care,

Patti

A New Scrap Page

003

This LO is of our dog Remmington and his stick dilemma. The kids collected all the sticks in the yard for him, and he had a problem deciding which stick he liked the best. He tried them all out, then he finally picked his favorite. This took him just about the whole day.

I actually got brave and did some doodling on the page. I know it is very simple doodling with just lines and dots, but I had to start somewhere right! I cut the title out with the cricut machine, distressed them, then stamped them with a stick stamp. I think they turned out cool :) The clock was also a stamp that I had and never used until know. I am finally back on track now with my scrapbooking and projects, Yippee!!!! It feels good to be doing what i love again.

Well I am off to my scrapbook table again to work on a new creation.

A New Artist In the Family

My youngest daughter who is 7 years old and in 2nd grade was chosen to have her art work shown at the big art show in the High School. This was a district wide art show. Her painting is called “Birch Tree’s”. and here it is …….

004

Now we were so shocked and proud when we saw this painting hanging at the art show. Even her older sisters who were also in the art show were impressed. So now I have a new artist in the family bringing the artist count up to 5 family members…

Thanks for listening to a proud mom that has to share her children’s accomplishments with the world…

Take Care,

Patti

Cereal box album

Ok, I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I have finally finished a project ( well almost finished) All I have to do is add the pictures and embellies. This album is made out of cereal boxes. A few tips for those of you who want to make one yourself.

1. Cut cover slightly larger then the pages.

2. paint all cereal box pieces before adding paper including the edges. It is kinda hard to add the paint on the edges after you add the paper.

3. put the album together first with paper clips so you are sure it will work. This also makes it easier to glue together when the time comes.

This album is a pocket and tag album, but you can also create an accordion fold album. When you make one send me a pic or link so I can see how you made your album.. This was a lot of fun to design and create!!:)

I am still alive!

Hi all,
I have been very busy with classes and family stuff that I have been unable to post, but I am still alive! I have been working on several projects that are not quit finished yet. One is mini boardbook album made out of cereal boxes. So far I have the cover done and all the pages attached and paper added. I still have to embellish and put titles, oh yeah, and the most important pictures. The other project I am working on is an old 9 pane french window that I am turning into a giant scrapbook page for wall art. I promise I will post pics when I am done:) I also made my mom a very nice Mother's Day card, but I put it in the envelope and mailed it without taking a picture. So that is the one that got away:0! I really don't know where my brain was on that one???? I think it is time for a new brain! I wish it worked that way. Go to Wal-mart and buy a new brain. Ok, that would be kinda weird:0 OK moving on, next weekend I am going to an all day crop! I am soooo excited!!!! I really can use a day of creating and a break from homework. This weekend is Mother's Day and I would like to wish all the Mothers out there a very Happy Mother's Day! Hope you have a fabulous day today!

Canvas Layout

So after I finished 23 pages of homework I finished this number! It is made on a artist canvas and I used things that were just laying around the house. The paper was all scraps from previous projects that I did. I used decoupage to attach them to the canvas. Lets see the found objects were some clothing tags, buttons, a cameo pin and a clear vinyl sticker that one of my kids got out of a gumball machine ( they forgot about it, so shhhh don't tell!) Then some ribbon and lace. Also if you have noticed the stamped cricut cutting mat cover that I recycled into a transparency was also used. I took a picture of the corner of my photo to show you the distressing that i did on it. I took a lighter and burned the edges of the photo. I KNOW I am a brave person for putting fire that close to my pictures! I used a copy of a picture that I printed on my printer. So if you try this DON'T use an original photo. I had a lot of fun making this, that I have purchased another canvas to make another. I think of it as fun wall art! Enjoy the rest of your week!

My Funny Thoughts LO

Well this LO was for a challenge that I found blogging around, but now I can't remember what blog had the challenge. The challenge was to create a layout using found items in your home, or use something you would normally throw away. So the butterflies are from an old pair of my DD jeans that she out grew. I cut them out and used heat and bond on the back to make them a little stiffer. The scallop trim under the photo is a pop can that I ironed out flat then cut the scallops with a corner rounder.( Yes, I save pop cans for scrapbooking) They make a great element on a page. I have done just about everything to the tin from the can. I also used an old cricut mat cover for the transparancy flourishes. So to total this up I used 2 trash items and I recycled 1 item. This was fun to make!! I am going to do another LO using different items.

decor8 weekend challenge

Ok, This little chest was sitting around for a long time waiting fro me to give it a makeover. I finally did it!!! Thanks to Holly @ decor8 and her challenge to make some time to do something creative. I have been wanting to get to this project for a long time, I needed this chest for my scrapbook counter. Folded Shirt card

Hi,
I just wanted to share a card that I am still working on for Father's Day. Yes, I said Father's Day, I know it is several months away, but I am trying to get ahead of the game! I thought this would be fun to share and the video on how to make this is here http://www.paperwishes.com/webisodes/?page=high&id=165
Once you get the hang of the folding it is really easy! Here are some ideas you can do with this card: Instead of buttons add a tie made from some ribbon ( ask Hubby to tie it for you if you can't do it yourself) cut the end of the ribbon to the shape of a real tie. Add some lace to the collar for a female shirt and use some decorative buttons. This card can be used for B-day invites, Just to say Hi, A mans B-day or female. Well I hope you have fun with this because I sure am!
Hugs,
Patti
