Prevent the Flu from attacking your family.

So I got an e-mail from my mom about how to prevent the flu. I know this may sound crazy, but I think it is worth passing on to everyone to try… So this is a copy of the mail I received.

 

Interesting. What could it hurt?
In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was
This Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he
Could help them combat the flu.
Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it
And many died.
The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise,
Everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what
The farmer was doing that was different the wife replied
That she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the
Rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then).
The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could
Have one of the onions and place it under the
Microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he
Did find the
Flu virus in the
onion. It obviously absorbed the
Bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She
Said that several years ago many of her employees were
Coming down with the flu and so were many of her
Customers. The next year she placed several bowls with
Onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her
Staff got sick. It must work.. (And no, she is not in
The onion business.)
The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them
In bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place
One or two in your office or under your desk or even on
Top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did
It last year and we never got the flu.
If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick,
All the better. If you do get the flu, it just might be
a mild
case..
Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a
Few bucks on onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me on health issues. She replied with this most
Interesting experience about onions:
Weldon,thanks for the reminder.. I don't know about> the farmers story..but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia
And needless to say I was very ill...I came across an
Article that said to cut both ends off an onion put one end
On a fork and then place the forked end into an empty
Jar...placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It
Said the onion would be black in the morning from the
Germs...sure enough it happened just like that...the onion
Was a mess and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that
onions and
Garlic placed around the room saved many from the black
Plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial,
Antiseptic properties.

I am not sure if it would work for the H1N1 flu, but what the heck, I think it is worth a try…….

Shelby’s latest performance

This is my daughter Shelby performing “ Your Daddy’s Son” from the musical Ragtime. She is a senior this year. This may be the last performance I capture on video:( I hope not, but it may be! She is going to college to study music, but it may be a while before she performs again. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do…

1st Day of School LO

This is Breauna. This year she is in 3rd grade and is at the big school this year. She was very scared about going up to the big school. That is why she didn’t smile for her 1st day of school pictures. All she could think about was getting lost at the big school. Her big brother Dale eased her mind and told her that he would walk her to her classroom every morning until she feels comfortable. Unfortunately that didn’t help. Then we were waiting for the bus and low and behold there was a flower just waiting to be picked! Breauna was sooo happy that she had a flower of her own. She then forgot about being scared and smiled. Just so you know Breauna is my little flower child. She is always picking flowers in the summer. Even mommy’s beautiful roses. No flower is off limits to her:) It is amazing to me that one little flower was able to ease her mind. She did very well on the 1st day of school with the help of her big brother and that little yellow flower.

Happy Birthday card

This is the card I made for my bff Jani’s birthday! Happy Birthday Girl:)! This was a card challenge from the CTSC forum. Pattern paper is My Minds Eye, stamps are an old set from Stampin Up.

Can you believe I didn’t use my cricut machine??!!!! I really have been spoiled by my cricut machine! Ok, so all you Cricut owners, what did you do before you got your cricut?? Inquiring minds want to know! I will tell you what I did. I used stamps a lot, and I bought packaged die cuts, used stencils, and did some freeform cutting with a lot of mess ups. So basically I did a lot of cutting and wasting of cardstock and paper! I love my Cricut! I love my Cricut!!!!

Cool Dude LO

This is my son Dale and his first day of school this year. He has totally changed his style in clothing. He has decided to hang up the elastic pants and cute boy stuff for clothes that are more rock starish. I think his new style is cute on him, but I miss the polo shirts and khaki pants:( I know, I know he is growing up and getting his own style. It is hard sometimes to let go and let the child make some of his own decisions. This was one of those times for me. Next year he will be in middle school and then the attitude will start ( OH JOY, can’t wait:() So I will enjoy him while I can:)

This LO was made using the storybook cartridge ( big circle) The journal spot, and HARD CORE thing was cut with the Indie Cartridge. Paper is Cosmo Cricket and for the life of me I can’t remember the name of the collection the paper is from.. Anyway, I love this paper it makes really cool  boy pages. 

Homecoming LO

Well I finally got around to do some scrapbooking today :) This LO is from my oldest DD’s Homecoming Dance. I used the Storybook cartridge for all the cuts. The title, photo corners, and date were all stickers I had lying around. My daughter just loves the page!! Thank goodness because she is not a pink girl. I actually thought she would be upset that I used pink on one of her LO’s. She has a strict NO Pink policy!What the heck is wrong with pink??? The color pink is not a bad color! Anyway,I am happy that she liked the LO with the pink. Maybe she has finally changed her mind about the color pink:)

FCTSC Color challenge

So the colors that we had to use are black, dark green, and rust. I know it is hard to tell the colors in the picture, but I did use them:) I also used a piece of corrugated cardboard that I inked up, and the leaves are a walmart find a few years back. I bought 3 packages of these leaves and I am not even through the first package. I think I did a little overkill on that purchase! Although they were a really good price at 99 cents a package, I think that 2 packages would have been enough.. Well off the the craft room:) Hope you all have a great rest of the week!

Scrapbook page in a box (aka. Explosion box)

This cute box was made for my best friends birthday. I gave it too her today, but i had to wait to post this because she likes to come and visit here often.  I was finished with the box on Friday:) This took me from start to finish about 2 hours. If you would like to see the instructions on how to make this just go to Christmas with the Cricut blog. There are 2 videos on there for the box and then one for the paper bow. Really, really easy to make! They are so easy I am making them for my girls graduation pictures and giving them to close family.

All papers are Close to my Heart, and I used the storybook cartridge for the letters, corners and frames.

Make your own metal accents with pop cans tutorial!

So are you tired of buying expensive metal accents for your cards and scrapbook pages??? Well I have a solution…. MAKE YOUR OWN:)
What you need:
1. pop cans ( use pepsi product cans because coke uses thicker aluminum)
2.  you will need 2 thick dish or hand towels
3. A pair of old sharp scissors ( DON’T use your good scrapbooking scissors it will ruin them)
4. iron
5. punches or die cut
6. an older paper cutter you don’t care to dull
OK now the directions……..
1. cut your pop cans open. You are going to cut the top and bottom off, then cut in half like this…
* Warning edges will be jagged and sharp be careful when handling)

Now your can should look like this

Step 2:
Now lay a towel down on a hard surface. You are going to want to fold the towel twice. Then open you can up with the cans design facing up like this..


now lay the other towel over top of the can like this..

Now you are ready to iron your can flat. This is how you are going to iron it…..
With one hand on the iron pressing firmly down and your other hand  under the bottom towel  on one side. now press up with the towel hand as you iron like this…

When you are done with the one side turn the towel around and do the other. What you are trying to do is make the can lay flat. like this….



ok let it cool a few minutes before you pick it up!
Step 3
Get out your punches and die cut machine ( do not use your cricut machine). I used my ancient sizzix machine and it cuts through the aluminum like butter.

Now you can use a paper trimmer to make borders like this..


Now you can use your Alcohol inks and metallic rubs to alter the metal.
Well everyone, now you can go create your own metal accents and recycle at the same time:)

Fall Flower Arrangement

So I decided yesterday to bring a little fall into the house. I covered a paint can with some scrapbook paper, tied a ribbon around the can, then add the flowers. I think it took me from start to finish 20 minutes. I love Fall it is my favorite season hands down!
Now the other news…..
I would have posted the flower arrangement yesterday, but I had to attend my son Jordan’s football game. This is homecoming weekend, and their first home game! Anyway, they won 63 to 0! Of course I had my camera with me! So here is a picture of my son.
 
That darn # 8 won’t stay on!! The night before last I used Heat and Bond to reattach the 8. As you can see it didn’t work to well:( I guess I need something with a stronger hold. That 8 was fine until he started playing, I guess boys are just rough on clothes!
Well I guess I am off to find something to create, or maybe finish one of the projects I started last weekend. Have a great weekend!

FCTSC Wednesday card Challenge

I did my card a little different then the sketch. I always have to be different I guess:0 I am not a by the book kind of girl. Anyway, this challenge was great because I used all scraps that I had taking us space. I am slowly pecking away at my scrap drawer:)  I guess to make room for more scraps. What a funny process that is. We all try to use our scraps, but then we just add more. Such the life of a paper crafter:) Have a productive rest of the week!

X-mas & Birthday Card

Ok, the first card is possibly my Christmas cards this year. I still need to make a few more cards before I decide. The birthday card is just something that I started to make and went with the flow. I do think that it might need one more element. So this Friday again my friends are coming over to make more cards. So I will post them when they are done.
Anyways, I am still working on my daughters Wheelock pictures. I have to finish the last LO for 2nd. grade. I am almost done, but I haven’t had time to work on it for a couple of days. I think I have A.D.D. because this past weekend I started 2 big projects. I really need to stop and finish one project at a time:) does anyone else have this problem?? I start way tooo many projects at one time. I can’t help it because this is how my brain works….
Think about what I want to do…
Get an idea….
Get excited……
Then run with it and start the project….
Then start another project because as I am working on the one, an idea pops in my head then i have to start another project.
Maybe that is why I end up going to bed early. I just plum wear myself out with all the projects I start during the day:(
So if  any of you know of a cure for this madness I create just drop me a comment :) If you don’t have a cure, but suffer from the same madness drop me a comment and maybe we can start a support group. ( ha-ha) Like we need another project! See it is an illness!
So the projects that I started are faux finish a cedar chest and a mirror. So far it is looking good, but because I started 2 big projects at one time it is going to take me longer to finish them:( I guess it will be worth it when I am done and I redo my living room.

More Layouts

So here are a few more LO’s for my daughters Memories of Wheelock scrapbook.

The first LO is pictures of my daughter from the beginning, middle, and the end of the school year. I used the storybook cart. for the scalloped ovals. I stamped the title and numbers. The pattern paper is Karen Foster, yellow cs is DCWV, blue texture paper is My Minds Eye.

The second LO is of my daughters class having applesauce and pancakes for lunch. I also used the storybook cart for the journal spot and the title spot. I also used Plantin Schoolbook cart. for the title letters. The red pattern paper is from Sara Papers, yellow pattern paper is from DCWV, and the green paper is from Close to my Heart.

So I have 2 more LO’s to do and I will be done with 2nd grade:) ( imagine me patting myself on the back) I am hoping to do them between tonight and tomorrow. Friday a few of my friends will be over to make cards. I will post them probably this weekend. Speaking of the weekend, I am hoping to be able to scrap and other projects, but I will have to have some cooperation from the kids ( imagine me crossing my fingers and toes). Well we will see!

Some LO I have been working on

All of these LO’s are for my daughter. She has entered the big school this year, and she really misses Wheelock Primary School, so I decided to make her a scrapbook of her 3 years at Wheelock. Thank goodness she had some awesome teachers who took pictures of all the activities they did. All her teachers knew that I am a scrapbooker and made sure I received copies:) I was trying to make the LO’s fun for her to look at so I scrapped them a little different then I usually do ( more kiddie appeal). The first LO is of her 2nd grade class baking cookies, second is a field trip to pick apples, third is a field trip to pick pumpkins. I am working my way from 2nd grade backwards to Kindergarten. The apple trees, pumpkins, 2 titles, and the decorative edge paper was all cut with Cricut. Now that the kids finally went back to school you will be seeing more of me here:) I don’t know about you other mom’s, but I am happy the kids are back in school and I now have time to work on my projects:) This week I will be working on more LO’s and some cards if I get my house work done. Which I will just so I can scrap. Have a great week!

My Birthday

So this past Sunday I turned 38. I don't feel 38, but all my kids and my friends and family are teasing me about getting closer to 40. AWE, SO What! 40 is just a number it is all about how you feel. I admit that I am going to bed earlier in the evening, and I have slowed down a little bit. I do remember staying up till 3 am scrapbooking then getting up at 6:30 am with no side effects. I never just sat down for a minute to rest, I just kept going and going like the energizer bunny. Well I can maybe do that once in while now, but i couldn't do this a few times a week. I still get up at 6:30 every morning including weekends, and I still go like the energizer bunny all day till I go to bed at 11:30 pm. I still can keep up with the 5 children I have! So do I feel old? Am I old? Naahh, I just have made some changes in my lifestyle that all! (This is the story I am sticking to) I am not feeling old at all...
So for my birthday my oldest daughter made me cupcakes from scratch, my youngest daughter made me a card using some of my scrapbooking stuff ( there were a few items on the card that I wish she wouldn't have used, but its the thought that counts). Hubby bought me a new cricut cartridge ( Storybook), cricut mats, and cardstock. My oldest daughter gave me a new cell phone with a full key pad for easy texting that I absolutly love. Then there is my step-son who gave me the cutest snowman that lights up. I love snowmen:). So all in all my 38th birthday was very nice, and I love all my presents:) I am looking foward to my 39th birthday!

Recycled Welcome Signs

I made these signs out of old door panels, paint, cricut machine,wire, ribbon, and decoupage.

This one I made for my best friend Jani. I just gave it to her today, and she loved it!

This one is hanging by my front door. If you couldn’t tell by the Americana theme:)

I have there more panels to make 3 more signs that I will be selling on Etsy.
